Cognition
Cognition is "the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses". It encompasses processes such as attention, the formation of knowledge, memory and working memory, judgment and evaluation, reasoning and "computation", problem solving and decision making, comprehension and production of language. Cognitive processes use existing knowledge and generate new knowledge.
Memory
Memory is the faculty of the mind by which information is encoded, stored, and retrieved.
Memory
Oh, I have roamed o'er many lands,
And many friends I've met;
Not one fair scene or kindly smile
Can this fond heart forget.
Thomas Haynes Bayly, O, Steer my Bark to Erin's Isle.
Memory
I have a room whereinto no one enters
Save I myself alone:
There sits a blessed memory on a throne,
* There my life centres.
Christina G. Rossetti, Memory, Part II.
Memory
Don't you remember, sweet Alice, Ben Bolt?
Sweet Alice, whose hair was so brown;
Who wept with delight when you gave her a smile,
And trembl'd with fear at your frown!
Thomas Dunn English, Ben Bolt.
